Aloha Mai Kakou,
To the students, parents, faculty and staff of Ka Waihona o ka Na`auao Public Charter School, I want to extend to all of you a sincere Mahalo. Your continued support of our school is greatly appreciated. Clearly, without the efforts of all of you, we would not have gotten to this ten year anniversary milestone. We have collectively met many challenges along the way. From Ka Waihona o ka Na`auao’s first year in a chicken coop to our second year at the old Cornet Store in Makaha, we persevered to overcome challenges such as these and have successfully moved forward.
We now have a permanent home. Our present facility has been secured through a 35 year lease with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. Plans for the expansion of Ka Waihona o ka Na`auao to high school continues through our ongoing conversation with potential financial supporters. The continued facility maintenance and expansion for the next 15 years has been detailed in our Campus Master Plan. Through this plan, we have begun exploring financial options to properly expand our school facilities to meet the requirements for our future high school.
What have we learned from going through this building process? Relationships and sustainability of those relationships are at the heart of all things positive. We as a school and as a community must provide our keiki with the best possible learning and living environment. It continues to be our responsibility to remain committed to this foundation of relationships and learning and continue to work collaboratively to meet our goals.
Best wishes to our graduating eighth grade students in their future endeavors. I look forward to seeing all of the rest of you, our continued students, again next school year. Have a safe summer!
Alvin N. Parker
