Administration Policy and Procedure

Priority for admission and criteria for acceptance comes from our school Developmental Implementation Plan (DIP). Children and grandchildren of staff, and the Local School Board, will be given first priority for admission. Application will be made by families who will list all children that they wish to attend Ka Waihona o ka Na'auao Charter School. A family with all of its children will be admitted at one time. if at all possible.

Admissions into Ka Waihona occur at Kindergarten. Admissions into grades 1-8 are limited to available positions in each grade. Open enrollment for all staff and LSB children will be in October. Enrollment for siblings of students already attending will follow in November. Open enrollment for all others applying for admission occur on the first working day of January.

The criterions for admission are a child's willingness, and parents' alightment with the Ka Waihona o ka Na'auao Mission and Educational Program.

There is no criterion regarding previous academic or behavioral performance in or out of school. There are no criteria regarding gender, ethnicity, cultural identity, religous affiliation, sexual orientation, or socio-economic status. All State and Federal laws against discrimination will be rigorously observed. Special needs students will be accepted to the degree that the program can serve them appropriately and adequately, in accordance with the IDEA, 504, and Felix Court Decision laws.

Admissions Procedure

All applications will be legibly filled out in the school office by the applicants legal guardian, dated, and time stamped by the office. Appications must be completed in its entirety to be processed. Incomplete applications will be discarded. If your contact information should change, you must inform the school of such changes for your application to be processed. Admissions acceptance or denial letters will be mailed out in May. Please do not inquire the school office before this time. If required paperwork and acceptance response is not submitted or completed by the deadline, your admission is void. Your cooperation is critical to ensure proper processing.
